B.B. King and Chuck Berry both changed the course of popular music and influenced thousands of guitarists all around the world, but have you ever wondered who influenced the two masters?

This concert will take the audience on a musical journey through the cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta to the streets of St Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee where the will hear the blues songs from the 'King Biscuit Time' and Grand Ole Opry' radio shows, Bukka White through to the Texas blues of T-Bone Walker and the electric blues of Muddy Waters.

After hearing King and Berry's influences in the first set, the audience will hear a selection of tunes written by King and Berry as well as songs by artists such as Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Freddy King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and Peter Green, all who were heavily influenced by the two masters. This is a cross continental journey through the roots and evolution of American popular music and the electric guitar which is not to be missed.

About the guitarists:


Zane Banks

Winner of an ABC Limelight Award for Best Newcomer (2011), Zane Banks has been described as an ‘expert’ of the guitar (The American Record Guide), ‘a young virtuoso’ (The Australian) and ‘an outstanding young Australian artist’ (Limelight Magazine). Banks is considered one of the most versatile guitarists of his generation having performed in Europe, Asia and in his native Australia. He studied classical guitar with Gregory Pikler, Philip Houghton and Aleksandr Tsiboulsk as well as jazz guitar with Steve Brien and gained his Bachelor of Music (Performance) Honours Class 1 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.


Drey Rollan

If there is one word to describe the Drey Rollan Band 'rare' would be the right answer. With their light hearted harmonies, charming guitar melodies and toe tapping rhythms, Drey Rollan, Bobbie Green and Little B shape a driving energy that is both dynamic and unique. Growing up on a healthy dose of rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, blues, doo-wop and country, this Sydney based band have played up and down the east coast, capital cities, festivals and everywhere in between, having residencies around the Sydney CBD.
